Dr. Braun uses low level laser (also called “cold” laser) therapy to improve tissue repair, reduce inflammation, control pain, and increase healing.
Like acupuncture for pets, Light Amplification by Stimulated Emission of Radiation therapy may help eliminate the need for surgery or medications. Often, as the effects of acupuncture and laser treatments take hold, patients may reduce the amount of pharmaceutical drugs needed to control pain.

How Does Laser Therapy Work?
Laser Therapy increases ATP (adenosine triphosphate which is an energy-carrying molecule found in cells of every living thing that stimulates nerves and muscles), alleviates oxidative stress, improves antioxidant status which leads to improved tissue repair and reduced inflammation.
Does Laser Therapy Hurt?
Laser Therapy does not cause pain. Super Pulsed lasers deliver light photons deep into the tissues in a safe, pain-free manner. The pulse durations are so short (in nanoseconds) that there is no heat sensation. Pets generally become very relaxed and even very small black-furred animals tolerate treatments well.

How Long Does Each Laser Therapy Treatment Take?
Typical Laser Therapy treatment times varies from 5 – 15 minutes depending on the size of the area and the severity of the condition being treated. When Laser is used in conjunction with acupuncture probes, the treatments range from 15 seconds to 2 minutes per acupuncture point. When considering that conventional pet acupuncture is 20 – 40 minutes, “laser-puncture” is a modality that often works for pets who do not tolerate regular acupuncture.
How Often Should My Pet Be Treated with Laser Therapy?
Acute conditions may be treated daily, especially if there is significant pain. Most chronic problems respond well when treatments are received at least 2 – 3 times per week for two weeks, then tapering off to once a week as the condition improved. Laser rental is available for pets who need more frequent therapies depending on their condition.
How Many Laser Therapy Treatments Does It Take?
For acute conditions, 1 – 6 treatments may resolve the condition. More chronic conditions may require 10 – 12 treatments. Certain conditions such as severe arthritis may require ongoing periodic care to control inflammation and pain symptoms.
How Long Before the Results Are Felt?
You will typically notice improvement right away in pets. Laser Therapy works at the cellular level and is very effective for promoting rapid healing. For example, humans may have a delayed reaction of 24 hours and chronic conditions may follow the Generation Rule. The Generation Rule states that if you are in your thirties, it may take up to three weeks to reach the loading dose; forties = four weeks.

Are There Any Side Effects or Associated Risks with Laser Therapy?
With proper instruction, best protocol and application, Laser Therapy provides a very safe alternative modality with no danger of addiction seen with traditional medications. Laser Therapy has been used for over 20 years by healthcare providers in over 30 different countries with very few side effects ever reported.
